Paige has always been a force to be reckoned with, her presence was bigger than life. Paige was bold, determined, extroverted and unrestrained. She had a way of walking into a room and demanding attention. She was unaffected by people in authority and expected answers to whatever she was inquisitive about. She was never afraid to try something new and loved to be challenged. It was that energy that drew people towards her, that energy of trying things, being unafraid and living in the moment. She was an active participant in life, with a love of music, always singing out loud, playing the drums or guitar, or sharing her new favourite bands.
However, it was on March 25th, 2012 where Paige and her family received life changing news. Dr. Colin Ward at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre found that Paige had two tumors in her abdomen, one attached to her Liver and the other within her Lymph nodes. 18 year old Paige was diagnosed with a very rare form of Cancer called Fibrolamellar HCC, in which there are very few documented cases. Paige underwent surgery on April 2nd, 2012 with Dr. Shiva Jayaraman at St. Joseph Health Centre to remove the tumors, and it looked as though the Cancer was completely removed. Yet only four months later, it was discovered that the Cancer returned far more aggressively than originally believed and Paige Doucette lost her brave battle on Saturday December 1st, 2012.
Paige loved life; all who knew her can attest to this. She constantly strived to make the most of every moment, even throughout her courageous battle. Paige’s passion for life was simply contagious, and inspired others to follow their passions as well. Thus, every year we keep her memory alive by encouraging others in the community to get up on stage and share their passion through music.
